About Melissa Fulkerson

Melissa was raised in Sonoma County, California, Where she was exposed to the world of music performance at an early age.  With her father being an accomplished guitar and bass player in multiple groups across the Bay Area, Melissa grew up surrounded by performing musicians.  She has a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies and  Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance.

Melissa received two Outstanding Solo Performance awards from Downbeat Magazine during her time as a student. One in 2010 as an undergraduate, and one in 2015 as a graduate student. She has performed with many world renowned musicians, such as Ben Folds, the San Francisco Symphony, Mike McMullen, Bennett Friedman, Steve Christopherson, Al Garth, and Charles McNeal, Julia Dollison, and Nancy King.

Melissa has taught piano, voice, and vocal jazz, jazz improvisation, music theory, musicianship, and jazz styles at many music schools and conservatories, such as Sacramento Piano Conservatory and School of Music, Natomas Charter School, the University of Nevada Las Vegas, California State University Sacramento, Sierra College, and America River College.
